Element 2

Makes adjustments for best control and safety

PC (b)
Carries out pre-drive adjustments to enable control of the vehicle

notes:

Adjustments include:

  • driver's seat (locates and uses foot brace, sits deep in seat, keeps slight bend in knee, can keep firm shoulder contact while making full turn of wheel)
  • head restraint (top of restraint level with the top of the ear)
  • steering wheel (positioned to allow full and free movement, view of controls and to minimise arm strain)
  • controls and switches (such as climate control)
  • all three mirrors (for maximum rear vision) So that the side of vehicle is visible in the side mirrors if the head is moved slightly
  • adjustments for night driving: side mirrors slightly out, interior light minimised, instrument lights dimmed
